Teaching

Teaching is about helping students and peers learn, innovate, and take action, and this goal has only become stronger through my higher education journey. Students will learn and absorb more when they are challenged to think critically and believe they are in a safe and inclusive environment. My main philosophies are to create an engaging classroom experience and provide a safe and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

Teach J561, a four-credit theoretical journalism course to 100 students. The course explores the relationship between mass communication and society, where students analyze and evaluate media performance and discuss various suggestions for change.

I previously taught J335, a four-credit core course where I converted a 15-week in-person class to an eight-week intensive asynchronous class. The course explored the concepts of basic reporting for print and electronic media, where students created a variety of print, audio, and web-based news stories on a current public issue.
